State of National Calamity

Cagayan de Oro City together with Iligan City has been declared as in the State of Calamity. Reported around 17:20, 2011/12/17.

The severity of damage has put Philippines in a State of National Calamity.

Flood Aftermath Warning

Let's all be aware that the following water borne diseases are contagious and do spread heavily after a flood.

  • Typhoid
  • Cholera
  • Diarrhea
  • and other water borne diseases

Please inform family, relatives, and friends to be careful with the water that they drink. Contamination of drinking water and groundwater is a major cause of the listed diseases.

Leptospirosis Prevention

Doxycycline 250 mg Take 1 dose after meal and drink lots of water. (According to Dr. Basang, Doxycycline is a prophylactic against leptospirosis)

Xavier University has set up a central command for relief support inside the campus at the satellite canteen next to the gymnasium.

Sendong Related Death Claims

Death claims directly related to the aftermath of the typhoon are handled by the DSWD. Burial assistance of P10,000 per deceased person is given out upon verification of three important documents:

  1. Barangay Certificate
  2. Death Certificate
  3. Police Blotter

  • DSWD Cagayan de Oro - (Masterson Rd, Upper Carmen) needs volunteers to repack and deliver relief goods.
